Prostitutes Advertising On Craigslist Arrested
Marketing News, Bizarre Marketing September 10th, 2006Prostitutes are going full speed into the techonology world of the internet. Police in Bucks County have charged 12 women after an investigation into prostitues who had been advertising their services on the job listings site Craigslist. The prostitutes advertised in a local listing section of Craigslist under the “girlfriend experiences” category. The police conducted an undercover investigation and met with the women at motels and arrested 12 in connection with the online prostitution ads. All I have to say is as the internet continues to grow and more users gain access to it, we must really think about policing the internet. First there was Crack Heads Gone Wild, then various websites trying to sell drugs online, and now this.

Yahoo has some competition in the world of contextual based advertising. ESPN, which was planning to use Yahoo’s text ads, is now aligning with Quigo’s AdSonar to run their own text based ads. With how appealing ESPN is to advertisers, I can see no other reason then ESPN selling their own ad space and keeping more money for themselves. The advertisers will be able to target keywords and be up and running by this fall.
We all know that sex sells to men. But the advertising industry, which bases its success on consumers being drawn to their products or services, want to know how women feel about ’sexy women.’ Recent research has shown that flashy magazine ads portraying sexy women may not actually catch the wandering eye of women readers. The team of researchers at the University of Florida in Gainesville gauged the emotional responses of 100 college aged women reading Allure and Glamour magazine. The researchers tracked their eye movement and reactions to the advertisements and gauged their interest. As the photos of women became more and more seductive, the women readers became less and less interested.
You don’t need a radio to listen to Elvis Duran in the morning anymore! Clear Channel radio recently signed a deal with Cingular Wireless to deliver streaming radio. The first station in the deal is Z100, the New York Top 40 station. Clear Channel hopes to boost that number to 100 stations within a year.
There is much political debate over the release of the documentary drama “The Path To 9/11″ from network giant ABC. The Democractic National Committee stepped into the ring days after bloggers like I started ranting over the 5 hour program set to air from September 10th - 11th. The controversey lies in the content of the docudrama. The Democrats, including Tom McMahon, call the video a “bold faced lie.” The Democractic committee has agreed with McMahon and declared that the docudrama conflicts with the Commission Report. The Democrats feel the move before the mid term elections is only a ploy by ABC to produce a biased view of 9/11 to help the Republicans maintain control in Washington.
