Lynx has jumped up and became the very first advertiser in the United Kingdom (UK) to launch a ‘branded community’ on MySpace. As reported on New Media Age, the star of the stunt is Towelboy. Towelboy is the half naked star of the latest Lynx tv commercial spot. The Towelboy MySpace profile acts as a connection between MySpace and the Lynx homepage. Towelboy’s MySpace profile provides a very fun “Snakecharmer” game from Lynxboost.com to promote the “Stimulating shower gel” the company is selling which is practically the same as Axe. Developed by an Italian advertising agency, this airplane window advertisement is quite clever and effective. The ad spot was developed for the Fiat Idea, a mini MPV developed by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat. The website basically lets you type in any term (product or service) listed on eBay and find listings that we misspelled by the speller. The benefits of this are that 99% of eBay buyers will not spell their searches incorrectly and therefore the misspelled auction listings will have a very low price. If no one can find the auction with a misspelled listing, then no one will be able to bid on it besides you who’ll find it with Auction Pixie.
Disney creation, Tinker Bell, will adorn the cool girls backpacks and clothing this school year, at least if market research agrees with Disney’s forecasts.
Starring in her own feature film (debuting in 2007), Tinker Bell will be on the cover of backpacks, sweat shirts, and denim jackets in the hope of gaining some brand exposure for the upcoming film. The main demographic for Tinker Bell and her fairy friends tends to be the young grade-school group of girls. “Girls 6 and up ﾃ｢竄ｬ窶 they want to be Tinker Bell’s friend,” maintains Jim Fielding, executive vice president of retail, sales and marketing for Disney Consumer Products. “She’s a little sassy and has a fuller life. She has an aspirational lifestyle.”
Little Tinker Bell isn’t alone in the fight for market share amongst 6-9 year old grade school girls. Hasbro is rolling out “The Littlest Pet Shop” characters line while Mattel is busy revamping the classic “Barbie” line. Traditionally, Tinker Bell has been left in the shadows of Peter Pan. Disney acknowledges there’s a market they need to penetrate and with this move and the upcoming film (voiced by Brittany Murphy), the company hopes to once again show the world a star.
