Superhero Advertisements

Print Advertising October 30th, 2006

Think Outside The Box was the advertising campaign slogan for the english version of the Belgium elections which were held on October 6th. These ads cry to the Flemish government not to elect white middle aged men. Perhaps they’re looking for a blind as a bat-man instead? (via)

Singing Cowboy Truth Commercial

Television Ads October 30th, 2006

I am a huge fan of the Truth Campaign for Tobacco and Lung Cancer awareness. In this singing cowboy commercial, a singing cowboy rides through the streets of New York’s Times Square on a horse and sits next to a camp fire just like the Marlboro man. He then starts singing with a tracheotomy voicebox “you don’t always die from tobacco, sometimes then just cut a hole in your neck. you don’t always die from tobacco, sometimes they just cut out your tounge.” Powerful is all I can say. Watch the stunned onlookers.

Top Ad Agenices Will Hire More Minorities

Marketing News October 30th, 2006

New York officials will be monitoring the number of minorities working for New York advertising agencies over the next three years. Under the threat and pressure from equal rights advocates and the pressure of city officials, many of New York’s top ad agencies have agreed to recruit more minorities. Primarily, they agencies will be hiring more African Americans.

This is a big deal as advertising agencies have signed a written agreement with the Human Rights Commission to reflect the diversity of the New York population in the top ad agencies. Data shows that in 2005 virtually no upper management were non-white and only 3 percent of staffers were African American. Some big agencies like WPP Group’s Ogilvy & Mather, Publicis Groupe SA’s Saatchi & Saatchi and several others will devote themself to finding and hiring more minority staff members.

ReZoom Launches Artifical Cataract Lenses

Marketing News, New Products October 30th, 2006

ReZoom gave 70 year old Gary Player an artifical lens called the ReZoom for his left eye so he could perform better at the Master’s Golf Tournament back in April. The 70 year old Player was so impressed with his improved vision that he had the surgery done on his other eye. Player is now a paid spokesman at the center of a consumer marketing campaign that lens maker Advanced Medical Optics Inc. has created ReZoom. The ad campaign will feature television, radio, and print ads which eye surgeons can pay to run locally. Already over 1,000 doctors have signed up.

The need for marketing is huge as the patients 65 and older who desire the surgery are required to pay $3,400 to $5,000 for the surgery with no medical coverage. The campaign began Monday and is running in six geodemographic markets. Print ads will be appearing in senior magazines and local newspapers. I believe the most effective way to market ReZoom will involve targeting seniors which the lasix eye surgery incorrectly did when they started out.

Bush Wants To Sway The Course

Television Ads October 26th, 2006

The Democratic National Committee might have unleashed their best (worst) ad spot before Election Day. The Bush Administration and Republicans in Congress have attempted to change their tune on their failed “Stay the Course” strategy. Although I’m not a Democrat, the ad and the tagline were effective and after the Mark Foley scandal everyone needs to get their poltical agendas in order while choosing sides.

Gears of War Promotional Ad

Television Ads October 26th, 2006

This Gears of Wars commercial presents a beautiful blend of computer animation, gaming, and music are presented with a refreshing marketing sway towards a design style I’ve always loved in movies. Hardcore and pumping action kept me on the seat for this one. The song in the video was done by Gary Jules. Although there is alot of good to the ad, I feel they would’ve done a better job if they did a less ‘moody’ intro and shown less sad destruction.

Best Buy Employees and Playstation 3

New Products October 26th, 2006

It is rumored that Best Buy employees will be unable to purchase the new video game console, Playstation 3 when it hits U.S. shores this winter time. If I was working at Best Buy with the availablity and employee price cut, I would try to steal as many as I could, quit, and sell them on eBay around Christmas time for $1,000 a pop.

“Not even if we stand outside in line overnight like everyone else. I’m heading up employee training for the new consoles at our store, the memo we received stated that employee purchases ’should not be allowed.’ According to another store manager, ‘Employees are completely locked out of buying a console.’ Unfortunately, we only get this news after the EB preorders.

Apparentlly, this decision came about so that ‘more consoles would be available to our customers.’ No word, as of yet, as to how long the lockout is supposed to last.Needless to say, many of us are pissed. But not nearly as many as there will be. The memo came to certain members of management, so I don’t think most employees know about the rules just yet. I’ll be the first to say that Best Buy is usually nothing short of great to it’s employees, it is by far the best company I’ve ever worked for, but they really dropped the ball on this one from an employee standpoint.”

Movie Sequels Should Stick To Numbers

Reports October 26th, 2006

A new report from the October Journal of Consumer Research found that when subjects were shown a made-up movie title —“Daredevil 2” or “Daredevil: Taking It to the Streets” — and asked to read a plot summary. Those who saw the second title spent more time reading the summary, remembered more, and rated the hypothetical movie more highly.

In a nutshell, Hollywood branding for sequels should stick to numbers and not cute one liners describing the sequel.

Hand Drawn Nintendo Wii Commercial

Television Ads October 26th, 2006

The guy who created this new Nintendo Wii Commercial used only paper and pen to develop the ad spot which took over 80 hours to make. It was part of a contest to win a Nintendo Wii video game console prior to national release date.
