Wal-Mart Nazi Shirts - Public Affairs Response
Uncategorized November 11th, 2006Apparently Wal-Mart’s public affairs guy gets around. Only recently after I posted an article on the Nazi t-shrits that were showing up in Wal-Mart’s stores did I just receive this email from their PR guy.
Good morning. My name is Marshall Manson. I work for Edelman doing online public affairs for Wal-Mart. I noticed your post about the t-shirts that Wal-Mart is selling. I wanted to make sure you saw the company’s statement about this and knew that Wal-Mart is now removing the t-shirts from its stores. Obviously, with a company as big as Wal-Mart, that may take a day or two. The statement is just below. If you would like to discuss anything, feel free to respond to this message.
Statement from Wal-Mart:
We were not aware of the origins of the image until this morning when we learned about it through the blog Bent Corner.
We are deeply sorry that this happened, and we are in the process of pulling all of these t-shirts from our stores.
Respect for the individual is a core value of our company and we would never have placed this t-shirt on our shelves had we known the origin and significance of this emblem.
We are reviewing our product review process in an effort to ensure this never happens again.
Tony Hawk Is A Sirius Whore
Television Ads November 11th, 2006One thing I can say about Tony Hawk that no one else can argue; Tony Hawk is a lover of capitalism. In this recent commercial for the Jeep Wrangler/Sirius Radio, the Birdman does a rail slide in his new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. The rail slide with the Jeep is an impressive presentation of the new extra-long wheelbase. It’s pretty funny to always see Tony Hawk promoting someone’s products rather than skateboarding. Then again, at age 38 he’s practically retired.

Google Checkout Gets Serious About Marketing
Online Marketing November 11th, 2006
Google’s PayPal killer has added two new features - a coupon creator and an email invoice product which are most likely the result of customer feedback. I tried out the Google Checkout invoice creator last night and sent it to one of our sponsors. I was pleased that the payor did not need to have a GMail account to pay the invoice.
Another great marketing strategy Google Checkout is doing to kill PayPal is to waive all transaction fees until the end of the year. I am excited that the 2% fee plus $0.20 per transaction was waived now as the holiday season quickly approaches. Google Checkout also stomps the competition by offering superior and timely customer service support. On the other hand, PayPal is always a horrendous ordeal. PayPal is a nightmare when it comes to extremely long automated voice menus and customer service rep’s who appear to not have made it to college.
