You think your product has good marketing? The Playstation PS3 came out today and there were riots, a shooting at a Wal-Mart, robberies, and mobs to get this console. Desperate supply calls for desperate actions. Is the Playstation 3 something you need enough to get shot over? Well some people are crazy enough to get this thing to probably yes.

Why wait in line that long if you’re going to do this?

Results of the eighth annual CyberSource Corporation survey of e-commerce fraud, released yesterday, shows that U.S. merchants will lose as much as $3 billion in revenue to fraud in 2006, up from $2.8 billion the year before. The good news: As a percent of revenue, fraud losses will be slightly less this year — merchants expect to lose 1.4 percent of revenue, down from 1.6 percent last year. Overall, merchants say 1.1 percent of accepted orders later turn out to be fraudulent. In response to fraud risk, more merchants than ever before are reviewing some orders manually. Eighty-one percent of merchants in the sample now conduct manual reviews, compared to 73 percent last year.

In response to growing fraud losses and ever increasing e-commerce volume, online sellers are turning to tools and systems that will automate and streamline fraud-management. Overall, the use of anti-fraud tools grew 14 percent from 4.2 to 4.8 tools used per merchant. The largest bussineses, those selling more than $100 million online annually, average nearly eight tools.

I was watching “Rob and Big” on MTV today and noticed Rob get a card from a guy who owns a Bulldog Skateboard Trainer. I had to do a little investigation to find it because MTV blurred out the guy’s business card. It’s a pretty interesting gimmic the dog’s owner is doing. She has skateboarding events on major holidays with the dog and the pup even has a resume and bio on the site.

The Playstation 3 was released today and in an effort to combat the panic over the limited supply of the system, Microsoft might be selling the XBOX 360 for only $100 through Amazon’s website.

Adrants points out that people living in Denmark really don’t care about things like speed limits for the Danish Road Safety Council kicked it up a notch by using Speed Control Bikini Bandits to enforce the law. The Bikini Bandits were hired to hold speed limit signs and encourage drivers to obey the law. My only problem is that wouldn’t the level of accidents drastically increase as a result of ‘losing focus of the road’?

Yes, today is the day you were supposed to get up at 3am and wait in line at Best Buy until it opens at 8am for the Playstation 3. I called the store two days ago and was told that they would retail for $599.99 and first-come first-serve is the rule. A blogger named Chris Thomas compiled this Playstation 3 waiting-in-line-forever video.

A giant billboard in New York shows what a toilet paper company is willing to do for attention. They put 20 stalls underneath the big arrow with ‘free samples’ of their toilet paper. The campaign will go from next Monday through Dec. 31st. The public bathroom will operate in Times Square and be stocked with P&G’s Charmin Ultra brand toilet paper complete with bathroom attendants to ‘assist you’.

The 20-stall restroom will be at 1540 Broadway, between 45th and 46th Streets, in space formerly occupied by a bar, Bar Code. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. (except for Christmas Day, when it will close at 6 p.m.). Read

This commercial is a few years old now, but even then I remember thinking Madonna was a sellout whore for allowing Microsoft to use her critically acclaimed “Ray of Light” song. Anyone who has ever tried to use the non functional Windows Movie Maker or has spent 12 hours trying to make their LAN and sound card co-exist in Windows XP knows the kind of shit software Microsoft makes. An online contextual ad start up company called Turn Inc. aims to simplify the online advertising industry for business owners. Turn debuted last week with over 1,000 advertisers and $18 million in venture funding. The company’s owner believes that Turn’s online marketing model will help turn the industry away from cost-per-click advertising to cost-per-action (something publishers would hate).

“Our vision is that advertisers should be able to come to an ad network, and regardless of their goals, regardless of the ad type they want to use, regardless of how they want to price their campaign, they should be able to do it in a one-stop shop,” says Barnett. The Turn model combines 60 variables to allow ads to be targeted more efficently than manual methods.

The cost-per-action methodology might work for those who are afraid of the click fraud incidents that Google has been facing. Cost-per-action is almost entirely fraud proof because many of the actions advertisers pay for such as a sale of an item can be verified when a real person clicks on an ad with the intent to buy. Many in the online ad industry are predicting a massive movement towards the CPA model.

Microsoft, feeling the heat from today’s release of Sony’s Playstation 3, has partnered with Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures to offer on-demand movie rentals through its’ XBOX Live Video Marketplace. There will be no additional cds or hardware needed. Everything can be done through the systems internet connection. CBS, MTV, and Turner Broadcasting will be selling television show downloads through the marketplace early next year.

Movies will retail for $3.99 and older releases for $2.99. Television shows are expected to go for $1.99 an episode. Sony has plans to do something similar but nothing yet is concrete.

Britney Spears, only 24, has two kids and a dead beat husband. The pop star recently filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences” which came to suprise to no one. Ever since she was married to Kevin Federline that has been nothing but harmful tabloids and gossip magazine reports on the couple.

It’s suprising how Spears went from the top of the pop charts to the white trash bin in less than two years. Spears spotlight did not diminish when she married Federline but her star power sure did. “It was almost like she took a poison pill,” Schinman said. “(Federline) was a weed that touched every aspect of her personal and professional life. The minute they met, she started her downfall as far as record sales, touring, TV shows and her image.” Read

The Cincinnati Post recently revealed that a copy of Toyota’s “global master plan” calls for 15% of the world’s car market by 2010. The report revealed that Toyota hopes to unseat rival GM as the world’s largest car manufacturer. Toyoth executives are planning on entering the Russia, China, India, and Brazil market to fuel it’s rapid expansion efforts.

Toyota already has one plant in India, with production of 44,500 units, one plant in Brazil, without output of 57,800, and five plants in China, with combined output of 443,000. It plans to open another plant in China in mid-2007 and boost production at other facilities to raise China output to 693,000. Its first Russia plant, with capacity of 50,000 units, is scheduled to open in late 2007.

Australian underwear maker AussieBum thinks size really does matter (contrary to what some women might say). The Sydney based company has produced a new line of underwear called “WonderJock.” The company claims the WonderJock will do for men what the WonderBra did for the women’s underwear market.

The WonderJock was designed to enhance your size. As Borat would put it, “a bigger satchel.” Since being released just 2 weeks ago, the WonderJock has sold over 50,000 pairs.
