This is a Subway commercial where we see a ‘wanna-be’ Rocky running to his corner man (Get Em’ Rock!) who wants nothing more than a big juicy fattening hot pastrami sub sandwich. That’ll sure help him out. Seriously. I undertstand how a big appetite works with a big sandwich but what does a physically fit person have to do with the Big Hot Pastrami Sub?

Well, here’s my idea. Subway advertises their 6 inch sandwiches with 6 grams of fat or less. However, that means you get no cheese, mayo, black olives, or other condiments (no parmeasean cheese even). That hot pastrami sub would have somewhere between 20 - 30 grams of fat when you add it all up. The imagery of the physically fit boxer being replenished through the consumption of a big hot pastrami sub trys to convey that this sandwich is a good post-work out meal. Obviously, at 20 - 30 grams it is not.

Stop Geek pointed out this funeral waiting to happen advertisement posted next to the metro rail tracks that says “Come A Little Closer.” Yeah, if I came a little closer I would fall and get hit by the subway train so what is their point? Could they be selling life insurance in a clever way? Subway insurance? Aflack?

In my experience, professionals in the advertising industry are meants to have a sense of humor and life shouldn’t be taken so seriously. Then again, death should be taken seriously. When my life is ‘joked and jerked’ around by a little cute sign that could trick someone into their death (I’ve seen stupider) then we have to start to worry.

Levi’s has given us a new understanding of what is means to be a straight heterosexual male in the United States with these Levi’s Straight Slim Jeans ads. The understanding behind the ads are that straight men would know the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver and a girly man would not.

Prosecutors, seemingly out of the blue, dropped the charges against Michael Anthony Bradley that arose when he tried to extort money from Google. Bradley had threatened to release software that generated false clicks on Google ads that would have resulted in millions of dollars in click fraud being perpetrated. While the prosecutors had plenty of evidence, including a tape of Bradley’s threat to Google executives, it may have been Google itself that lead to the charges being dismissed.

The company appears to have refused to allow prosecutors or anyone else access to its click fraud-related business operations. Doing so would have, according to Google, would have not only revealed information that would help its competitors, but also would have helped people who try to perpetrate click-fraud. But not cooperating also means that the guy gets off after explicitly stating that he was working to defraud Google and its advertisers.

So what do you think? Did Google make the right call by keeping its trade secrets secret? Or are they damaging their own reputation, as well as that of the rest of the search ad market, by not prosecuting this guy regardless of the cost?

New Partners, a dating service, has released these new Ken and Barbie ads where both Barbie and Ken resort to masturbating themselves or having intercourse with a sheep. Excuse me? I suppose the clear message is that even if you are the hottest depiction of what society wants you to look like (Barbie and Ken) that you won’t get lucky unless you use the New Partners Dating Service.

The new Halo 3 commercial debuted on Monday Night Football last night which grabbed the attention of rivals among the video game industry. The 60 second commercial spot from Microsoft was pretty interesting considering the game does not come out until next fall. It is as if the hype is going to be so huge for this game that advertising it a year ahead of time will build brand awareness early on. Possibly, with all the frenzy over the XBOX 360, Nintendo Wii, and the Playstation 3 the advertisers are trying to build momentum for the XBOX 360 console (developed by Microsoft and where Halo 3 can be used).

While it’s de rigeur Hollywood to show trailers for anticipated sequels a year or more in advance of their release, the strategy is foreign in the gaming world. But “Halo” is unique in the industry, having sold almost 15 million units for more than $700 million in sales, and “Halo 3″ is the last game of the trilogy.

Great Britian has been the industry leader and by far outpaced the United States in online advertising expenditures throughout the years. This makes perfect sense considering in Great Britian the news is very national while in the United States we are more focuses on local and regional concerns. In a nutshell, in the U.K. businesses are trying to capture the attention of the entire country rather than a local market. New advertisements for razors depicting the smoothness of their products on your face by applying the blade to egg cartons are springing up left and right. More specifically, the Quattro Titanium Razor is featured with egg faces to show how smooth the razor can make your face. The advert is a very clever idea though seeing people’s faces on eggs is still rather corny. Seeing one of those eggs crack with egg goo would creep the hell out of me.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has recently called for the complete elimination of all fast-food related advertising towards young children. The group has asked the U.S. Congree and the FCC to reduce the number of time allowed for advertising to children by 50% to just six minutes per hour. The American Academy of Pediatrics is even targeting college campuses and the amount of junk food exposure corporate fast food joints are using. They even weigh in on how advertisements for sexual performance drugs like Viagra make sex seem recreational.

The Oxygen Network (Oprah’s television network) will be promoting it’s new hit reality show “Bad Girls” with a social network online. The Bad Girls Club On Oxygen will allow visitors and fans of the reality show to voice their opinions on the show, the creators, and the characters. Cast members will develop content for the social network through blogging and weigh in on their experiences. Oxygen has also created a Myspace account and YouTube channel for clips from the show.
