The paper I wrote below explains the 6 Steps Involved In Marketing Intelligence Systems.
1. Identify the problem
Chances are, if you are conducting market research within your company there is an exsisting or potential problem that you would like to investigate. This problem might be identified by one of three areas of the levels within a company; accounting department, marketing department, or management department.
2. Develop Your Company Objectives
The second step involves the development of a clear set of objectives at tackling the problem. While developing an objective, it is important to forecast the budget, establish the research method, understand the changing environment (external research) and develop a hypothesis.
3. Research Development
This step involves the development of a reliable market research method. Since market research systems are project based, solving a definitive problem is imperative to its’ solution. Knowledge and proper understanding of primary and secondary data is also important. A company might decide to develop a questionnaire and determine a sample size while determining a data analysis method.
4. Collection Of Information
Collection of data through surverys, questionnaires, field projects, or other information collection mediums. Other mediums of data collection might involve the use of ‘cookies’ or collection of information from a social network portal if such information would be relevant (Facebook or MySpace privacy policy).
5. Perform Data Analysis
Depending on how the questionnaire is constructed, simple to complex analysis of the data collected can be conducted.ÂÂ
6. Reporting Of Market Research
The last step involves the presentation of the data collected and analyzed. The information should be presented in a simple form for everyone in the boardroom to understand. The decision makers will need the research reports and be able to understand your departments reporting style to make an important decision.
