Teens Still Likely To Smoke
Business Marketing October 11th, 2006
A new U.S. study revealed that teens that are savvy about the motives behind advertisers might be less inclined to smoke. Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine say thousands of teens each day are lured into smoking cigarettes by product placement in movies featuring glamorous models and actors. There is little to no real advertising for smoking nowadays. However, the brand placement has heightened influence amongst teens. I believe that peer influence and parental smoking are the biggest factors that are difficult to change. Media influence can be taught though. Teens need to better understand the results of the study and understand product placement in movies and television.
