Black Wu and Darren Cheung acknowledged that the Lego Ads are indeed fake and that they were made as a “personal trial to challenge creativity.” Discussing the ads creation, the pair said “”We got so carried away that we came out with the stupidest idea that upset a broad audience. This was obviously done without the knowledge of any of the Saatchi & Saatchi managers.”

A new promotional contest is being put in that could win you a role in an episode of “One Tree Hill.” The promotional contest will follow the increasingly popular marketing tactic known as user generated content. The CW Netowrk is teaming up with the Sunkist line of Cadbury Schweppes sodas and asking viewers to create and upload video entries in this very unsual contest. Entrants are encouraged to submit their video clips to the CWTV Sunkist website page. Consumers will be able to vote online for their favorite video clip on the website. It’s an example of 360 degree marketing and a grass roots campaign to involve the consumer from the most basic and comfortable level… their living rooms.
The “Sunkist Brings ‘One Tree Hill’ to Your Town Contest†was first promoted during the Nov. 29 episode with a commercial featuring Mark Schwahn, the executive producer who created the series. The commercial was repeated last night and will continue running until the contest ends Jan. 7.
As of yesterday, CW executives said, 370 entries had been registered, a strong response, considering that it took more than 10 weeks for the Doritos contest to accumulate its entries.
Direct-response advertising as a genre is especially appealing to parody because it’s “so cheesy,†Mr. Jendrysik said. It is an inside joke that the public gets, he added, even the GameTap target audience of 25- to 35-year-olds, who may be too young to recall the ’70s pioneers like Ronco, K-Tel or Ginsu knives.
Mr. Jendrysik said the spoofs were also a good strategic fit for GameTap, which was introduced nationally last year and is trying to build its subscription base. GameTap offers hundreds of games on demand, he said, but to list all of them would be boring; the “greatest hits†format enables the agency to deliver all that information in an entertaining way. The spots are running at least through the end of the month on national cable networks, including those owned by Turner. The GameTap advertising budget is estimated at $50 million.
“These days you have to figure out a way to break through as unique and differentiated,†said Justin Osmer, MSN senior product manager, “and this is a real fun way to do that.†Read
Amp’d Mobile Try Not To Die Advertisement
Bizarre Marketing, Outdoor Advertisements December 8th, 2006This is a clever outdoor advertisement for Amp’d Mobile Cell Phones which uses the tag line “Try not to die.” the ad appears like a giant pit in the middle of a city block but it is actually just painted on to look clever. It’s a good concept and I give the artist props for working hard on this but this has clearly been done before and the message between cell phones and not dying is not clear. As one blogger put it “One of those anamorphic illusions painted on the sidewalk to promote Canada’s cellphone service.”

For some reason, this seems more of a really bad publicity stunt on the enviornment than an actual accident. “A cargo container that apparently fell from a ship washed up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina on Thursday and spilled thousands of bags of Doritos brand tortilla chips on the beach. People collected the chips, which were apparently still fresh due to their airtight packaging. It was unknown which ship had lost the cargo or to what port it was bound.”

A new patent pending 360 degree rotating and mobile video billboard can be seen deliverying 30 second moving video clips to thousands of New York, LA, Chicago, Boston, and San Francisco citizens. It can be attached to your cab, bus, or your car (if you want to). Some people are calling it “four-sided mobile audio visual advertising on wheels.” We like to call is just pure genius. Thousands upon thousands of onlookers wondering what the hell that techno-pizza-man-topper is doing on top of your car will help generate a little press for your product. It was built by Massachusetts based Al Terrain.
This new Viagra advertisement was received by AdRants in a spam email. It’s an email with a woman doing gymanstics on a man’s facile.

Monday, bus shelters in California started smelling like fresh baked cookies as part of the “Got Milk” campaign. The smell came from stickers that were put insider the bus shelters to make people hungry and thus go out and buy ‘milk and cookies’. I can’t wait to see how many drooling homeless people will be licking the sides of bus shelters now.

Levi’s has given us a new understanding of what is means to be a straight heterosexual male in the United States with these Levi’s Straight Slim Jeans ads. The understanding behind the ads are that straight men would know the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver and a girly man would not.
New Partners, a dating service, has released these new Ken and Barbie ads where both Barbie and Ken resort to masturbating themselves or having intercourse with a sheep. Excuse me? I suppose the clear message is that even if you are the hottest depiction of what society wants you to look like (Barbie and Ken) that you won’t get lucky unless you use the New Partners Dating Service.

McKindsey developed this job recruitment advertisement for computer engineers in which to call the telephone number in the commercial you would have to solve a series of mathematical questions. It’s a quite humorous mode of job recruitment and one this blogger thinks should happen more often. Lazy people shouldn’t be able to simply pick up the phone and ring a’ ding. The job market is comeptitive right now and job seekers and employers need to get serious about the issue. Ruf Lanz designed the advert.

GM Butterfly Advertisement
Bizarre Marketing November 29th, 2006
A team from the University of Buffalo has developed the world’s first “GM Logo” butterfly to discover how genes work in the development of wings, stripes, colors and eye spots. The researchers used a stencil to draw on a microscopic logo on the butterfly’s wings. The project was great for science but how will the company benefit from such microscopic exposure? Perhaps they were hoping for the big PR stunt this thing is generating.

Here’s a look at an innovative grocery store in Japan where customers go around the store in a roller coaster. I wonder how fast that thing can go?
Illinois Required To Support Utility Rates
Bizarre Marketing November 28th, 2006
A $15 million advertising campaign by Ameren Corp. and ComEd in Illinois warn residents of the state that they MUST support the increase in utility rates or else they will be faced with blackouts like Califnoria did many years ago. The energy bills are expected to go up from 20 - 50% and that is making many politicans nervous.
