If you think getting your html/text pages indexed in Google or buying pay per click ads pointing to text-based web pages are the only ways to get found on Google, your competitors could be eating your lunch - or more to the point, serving lunch to customers that could have been yours. What’s up?

Google Coupons:
For starters, Google is now giving local merchants the chance to put coupons online. To do so, you need to first create a free business listing in Google Maps. Once that’s completed, you can click on the Coupons tab to enter the text for your coupon. Coupons will show up when searchers search Google Maps for your products in your location. (ie, restaurant, Manhattan, NY.

Google Video:
Another way to get found: Google Video. That’s taken the place of Froogle (Google’s shopping comparison search) on the Google home page. (Froogle is now found under the “more” link off the home page.)

Google Video gives businesses (entertainers, and others, too) a way to get their videos seen either free, or by selling video content on Google. For information on uploading and selling video content on Google, see the Google Video Help Center.

Google Sitemap:
The nice thing about this type of sitemap is that it can be read by humans AND search engines. Website owners simply use our program to generate an HTML sitemap, upload that file to their server’s root directory (same location as the website’s main page) and place a link to the file in their footer. Get your Free Google Sitemap and save the XML file.

Google Maps now is allowing businesses to upload printable Google Coupons to its long line of webmaster services.

I’m so busy today. Yes, I’m sure I’ve already said that before. I’m busy promoting my own web design company so I thought I’d go ahead and keep everyone abreast with a little E-Mingling today.

Today has been a busy bee day. I’ve already worked through a large directory list submitting my web site to approximately 100 directories on the net. Of course, I judged each before submitting for content relation to my own web site and the sites’ Google Page Rank of importance.

This is an older and time honored technique of quickly developing a link system between your web site and others. It also helps eliminate irrelevant reciprocal link exchanges between your site and others. Finding closely related content to link and be linked from has never been easier than this technique. If you’ve been reading my online book I am sure your up to speed on link building and how it can boost your web sites ranking on the search engines. Now it’s time to get started with the busy work. But don’t worry, I’ve went ahead and made it a little easier for you today by providing a few lists of the best directories on the internet to get you started.

But before jumping the gun, remember that you must submit your web site to the section of the directory that pertains to your web sites theme. The web site you’re looking at would likely go into a Marketing or Advertising section. If you have a web site on Cats then put it in the Cats section. Don’t think you’ll get more exposure by putting your web site into another section because it’s highly popular. More than likely your site won’t even get listed. Obey the rules, drink a lot of caffeine, get hooked, and work all day until you have an exaustive sweat draped over your forehead and you’ll build a giant list of reciprocal lists through your directory submissions.

Here are some of the basic things you can do to improve your search engine ranking on Google and other search engines. These are basic and I will be exploring and divulging more ways to boost your site on the search engine later in this online book.

1. Keyword In Title: Not any keyword or key phrase. You have to use a keyword tool to find the most profitable search terms for your web site. I compiled a short list of pretty obvious things that could be hurting your web site in major search engines if not properly optimized.

Web Site Development Methods That May Count Against You:

1) Domain Age: This is when your web site is less than 6 months old. No matter what you do chances are that you will be buried in the Google Sandbox. A site is sandboxed when it is brand new and does not rank well for highly competitive keyword phrases on the search engines. Some people might be confused that the term ’sandbox’ means that Google will not list your web site. This is unture. Google has a complex method of determing what to list and what not to.

2) Hidden Content: If you have text on your web site that is the same color as the background, Google will be able to detect this and quite possibly block it or lower its’ page rank.

DMOZ is a pansy.

Just to catch you up to speed, The Google Directory receives all of it’s information from DMOZ - The Open Directory Project.

I must tell you that the volunteer editors that determine which web sites are to be added follow DMOZ’s policy to a T which means that your site might not be unique enough to qualify for a listing.

Now to present some of the various reasons you might not get listed on DMOZ. Take this advice to heart. If you modify the way you do things with DMOZ, you might strike gold and get listed.

Among the sites DMOZ often rejects are those that have an overall message of trying to sell something. DMOZ wants informationally rich web sites.
