Marketing Hawaii After Earthquake
Marketing News October 19th, 2006

With floods, sewage spills, and earthquake aftershocks the State of Hawaii might not be the best place for tourism. Wednesday, the state announced they will be launching a new marketing campaign to keep tourists coming in after a 6.7 magnitude shock hit the island over the weekend. Considering tourism is the number one industry for the state, the annual $12 billion in revenue could come under jeopardy. Power outages caused the most concern for tourists and caused nearly 100 cancelled flights Monday. Tourism officials are working to counter the negative perceptions of post-shock Hawaii. It is likely that the drop in tourism will be short term but officials are taking no chances.
