Get Listed On DMOZ
Online Marketing, Search Engine Optimization July 13th, 2006
So you wanna roll with the big guns?
Do you want your web site exposed to millions by getting listed on only one internet directory?
Let me introduce you, my friend, to DMOZ. But don’t rush to DMOZ without reading this article first. Because you will likely never get listed if you are novice to what DMOZ is and how to get listed. Mathematical geniuses from Harvard have complained they couldn’t do it.
Getting listed on DMOZ can take a very long time.
DMOZ, or The Open Directory Project is a very large and very categorized directory. DMOZ is run by individuals like you and me who for some reason or another decided to volunteer to manually review every web site submission before adding it to the directory. Unlike many popular directories today, such as Yahoo ($250 for a submission), DMOZ is completely free.
Do not expect a ton of traffic from DMOZ. The millions of web masters trying to get on DMOZ are simply doing so to boost their Google Page Rank. Google derives alot of information from the DMOZ directory.
As you may or may not know, a higher Google Page Rank will result in higher rankings. Higher rankings are more potential customers and leads. The Page Rank within a web site is increased by the number and quality of pages linking to it and having DMOZ linking to you will totally BOOST your rankings. Getting listed on DMOZ will boost your Page Rank at least 1 or 2 points.
