Steal The Marketing Power Of Competitors
Online Marketing, Website Optimization July 13th, 2006
You can easily steal the marketing power of your competitors on the internet to gain not only your ranking in many search engines but also gain the width of your wallet.
Here’s the simple trick.
All you have to do is find out which web sites are appearing on Google for keyword search phrases that you want to place higher in.
But I must explain how this works. Google and other search engines will actually rank your web site higher in its’ search results based not only on your META tags and titles but also your external links. That is, the links on your web site that go to other web sites.
For example, I did a search on “Wide Shoes†hoping to steal all of my competitors traffic.
Google then returned:
Results 1-10 of about 58,000,000 for wide shoes (.40 seconds)
Sounds pretty competitive right? Don’t worry. Here’s what you need to do.
Take one of the first 10 results and write down that web site address (the whole thing that comes up in the results). Preferably you do not want to use a highly offline marketed web site. For example, if you search “televisions†and Panasonic and Sony are some of the top results, you will never be able to compete.
For the example we are using “wide shoesâ€, I took http://www.DavesWideShoes.com/
Already “Dave†is in a great position because he used the keywords “wide shoes†in his domain name. I’d recommened using the keywords you’re aiming for when you are looking for a domain name as well.
But back to stealing your competitiors marketing capabilities.
1. Go to Google
2. Type in: link:http://www.daveswideshoes.com/ (or competitor)
3. Hit Search
4. These web sites are the ones your competitor is linking to. Contact all of these web sites to exchange links. Offer to put their web site on yours first. Preferably you’ll want to take the initiative and place the link on your web site in a good position prior to contacting them.
You can do this manually as described above or you might want to try employing quicker networking tools such as Arelis. Arelis will allow you to find your competitors and who they are linking internally and externally in a flash. Then you can even email these contacts right on Arelis. And no, I am not touting their software because I get an incentive. I actually own and recommend the product.

It will only take an hour or so a week but will highly affect your rankings on major search engines.
