It’s simple! I’ve been doing this for years with various web sites.

Build your reciprocal links database until it is about the explode. Don’t rush to your outlook express in one hand and Google in the other hand though. Take a step back and learn.

Reciprocal links will truly add value to your web site, bring targeted traffic to your site, and in essence more sales. But your reputation is on the line. Who links to you and who you link to can be imperative to success online. Having high quality, high page rank (See ‘Google Page Rank System’) web sites to exchange with is the ONLY way to succeed.

Google, which account for nearly 40% of all searches on the internet, uses a link popularity system for determing how it ranks web sites for any particular keyword or keyphrase.

Yahoo!, HotBot, and MSN all use the same formula. You must develop these high quality link exchanges and maintain them. That is, keep a record of your exchanges and routinely check the status of your reciprocal links to ensure your allies are keeping the links to your web site on their page that they promised.

Do not even look up link exchange programs on Google. Link exchange programs are ‘link farms’ where millions of web sites are linking each other without caring who they are exchanging links with.

Quality links is all you need to think about. Quality links that relate to what your web site is about or in close relation to is even better.

Think of your web site as a christmas tree.

� At the very top, or the star, you have what your web site is and what you are selling. Take for example that you are an online “Costume” shop. The keyword “Costume” is your star on the tree. You sell Star Wars Costumes, Flapper Costumes, Gangster Costumes, etc which are the branches of your tree. You want to first try to find other web sites that are about “Costumes” to exchange links with. Don’t forget to check their Google Page Rank. It should be equal or above your own page rank. Otherwise, they will only drag you down in the search results.

After targeting other web sites about “costumes” go on to the branches of your tree. Find other web sites about “Star Wars” or “Star Wars Costumes” and try to exchange links with those web sites. Take the initiative of putting their link on your web site first then contacting them. They will appreciate your gratitude and exchange the favor.
